Signs that may raise concern
Trafficking often involves control, pressure, or fear. You may notice:
- Someone else controls work, money, movement, or communication
- Threats, manipulation, or pressure to work or provide sex
- A growing “debt” that can’t be paid off
- Lack of access to ID, phone, or personal documents
- Fear of leaving due to threats to themselves or family
You may recognize these signs in someone you know or in your own life.
What to do next
If anyone is in immediate danger, call 911. Tell the dispatcher you suspect human trafficking.
For non-emergency concerns or questions, contact Outer Banks Hotline. It is confidential, free, and available 24/7.

If this is about you
You are not alone, and this is not your fault. Reaching out does not mean you have to report anyone, leave your situation, or make a decision today. Support is available at your pace.
If this is about someone else
Please don’t confront a suspected trafficker or try to intervene directly. This can increase risk. Sharing your concern with trained professionals is the safest way to help.
